Above Counter Hearing Loops

Above Counter Hearing Loops

Above counter hearing loops built into a visible loop sign. Staff speak into a microphone, and customers with hearing aids or cochlear implants hear them clearly and confidently at the counter.

What Is an Above Counter Hearing Loop?

Above counter hearing loops provide accessible, one-to-one communication at service points. The loop aerial is built into a blue hearing loop sign that either mounts on a vertical surface or sits on the counter, facing the customer, on a stand. The sign connects to a loop amplifier and a staff microphone.

When staff speak into the microphone, their voice travels through the loop and straight to the telecoil in the customer’s hearing aid or cochlear implant. The customer hears improved speech clarity with less background noise, and the sign shows that a loop is available.

Why Choose Above Counter Hearing Loops?

  • Loop aerial and signage in one unit, so customers can see the service is available
  • Mount the sign on a vertical surface or place it on the counter with a stand
  • No receivers or headphones to hand out, clean, or replace
  • Works with the hearing aids and cochlear implants customers already wear
  • A choice of staff microphones to suit your counter setup

How It Works

A staff microphone feeds the loop amplifier, which drives the aerial in the sign with a steady current. The amplifier uses audio processing to keep speech clear and consistent, then creates a magnetic field in front of the sign, reaching about 800 mm. The customer switches to the T-coil program and hears the conversation directly.

The result: clear, direct sound without background noise or reverberation.

What’s in an Above Counter Hearing Loop System

  • Loop driver: a 1-to-1 hearing loop amplifier with microprocessor control, a low-power standby mode, audio processing (AGC, compression, and noise gate), constant-current loop drive, and continuous self-testing, with power and LED status indicators.
  • Loop sign with built-in aerial: the blue hearing loop sign that carries the loop and tells customers a loop is available.
  • Power supply: a Level VI power supply for the loop driver.
  • Staff microphone: choose the one that fits your counter, such as a noise-cancelling halo microphone on a stem, a compact round-base microphone, a discreet microphone for mounting to a register or computer screen, or a flexible gooseneck microphone.

Why Venues Choose Above Counter Hearing Loops

Above counter hearing loops create a better experience for customers who struggle to understand staff in a busy or noisy space. Conversations are faster and clearer, and customers leave with more confidence that they understood.

For businesses and public facilities, the visible sign shows that you welcome customers with hearing loss, and a simple setup keeps the system easy to use. Because the aerial and sign are one unit, it’s an efficient way to add a loop to a counter that has no room for a hidden installation.

Planning an Above Counter Hearing Loop Installation

Every counter is unique, and a successful above counter hearing loop installation begins with a detailed assessment of the space. We look at where customers stand, how staff and customers interact, and whether the sign should mount to a wall or stand on the counter. We also help you choose the staff microphone that fits your workflow.

After installation, we provide testing and documentation so your team knows the system is working and how to use it. Ongoing support is available whenever you need adjustments, upgrades, or additional counters.

Telecoil Compatibility

Most modern hearing aids and cochlear implants include a telecoil (T‑coil). This tiny component allows the listener to receive audio directly from a loop system.

Telecoils are widely supported across manufacturers, making hearing loops one of the most universal assistive listening solutions available today.
